Hiking Vs Climbing
Is there really a lot of difference between these two words. Well, I seem o use one for the other many times when my close friend came to me and cleared the difference.
The easiest way to explain how these three activities are different is to distinguish each term and categorize them by difficulty.
Hiking
easiest than climbing
walking on built-in hiking trails (but not always)
short, lasting anywhere from a couple of hours to a full day
generally flat or little steep trails.
difficult is moderate to the extreme if thru-hikes.
Multi-day hikes are the real physical challenge for the body
Less equipment is required. Most of the hikes have spots for resting and camping can be done as an extra adventure.
Some “multi-day hikes” are
- Hike to Havasu Falls
- Hike to Macchu Picchu
- a popular trail like the Thru Hikes in Europe: Underrated and Popular among Hikers
Climbing
crossing mountains using ropes or any marked line.
difficult compared to trekking
may include rock climbing up sections that are impossible any other way
lots of equipment to carry like harnesses, axes, ropes, torches, etc.
the ultimate daredevil when reaching high altitudes in hot summers.
demands more physical strength than trekking
The real difference is the backpack.
Climbing backpack vs hiking backpack. There are a lot of things to consider while packing for climbing and trekking. You need to check for the space, material, handles and other things too.
